Team Division Implements New Format

Posted on December 1, 2022 Written by Brent Stafford

The Texas Bassmaster Open Team Trail is pleased to announce a new Region Qualifying format for 2023 and invite all teams across the state to participate. This is an “Open” team trail meaning teams do not have to be a member of a Texas BASS Nation bass club. Any team can register and compete in the trail. Just pay a one time membership fee and sign up for the trail in your area.

Historically there has been one Team Tournament schedule that visited between four and six lakes around the state. To qualify for the Team State Championship, Teams would travel long distances which would add to the cost of competing and qualifying to advance.

In 2023 we have scheduled tournaments in existing Regions so teams can fish closer to home, save on fuel costs and still qualify for the Team State Championship. Teams must compete in a minimum of three (3) qualifying tournaments in order to be invited to the Team State Championship. They can fish all three tournaments in the same Region or fish one tournament in three different Regions to qualify. Your choice! However, Team of The Year (TOY) points will only be awarded by Region. Each Region will crown a TOY based on point standings and that Team will receive free entry into the Team State Championship.

Why fish the Texas Bassmaster Open Team Trail? This is the only Team trail in the state that offers the opportunity to advance to the Bassmaster Classic. Do well at the State Team Championship and advance to the National Team Championship. The top three teams at the National Championship will then compete as individuals for a berth in the Bassmaster Classic.

Grab your partner, take a look at the Region schedules and sign up online for the trail that fits you best!!

We look forward to meeting you and best of luck on the water!!

Kipp & Rogers Take the Stillhouse Open Team Event

Posted on July 24, 2022 Written by Brent Stafford

Saturday was a great weather day as far as summer weather is concerned. Light breeze in the morning that increased through the day and not as hot as the previous day. We scaled back on the bag limit to 3 fish in the interest of fish care and everybody checked in at 1:00 pm. We paid four places at the tournament.

Congratulations to David Kipp & Justin Rogers that brought a limit to the scales that went 11.99 lbs. They also had the big bass of the day that went 5.49 lbs.

Second place went to Brian Jones and Matt Russell, also with a limit, that weighed 11.49 lbs.

Third place went to Ty Grissom and Mark Grissom with a total weight of 7.67 lbs. Their big fish went 4.99 lbs.

Fourth place went to Bill Huskins and Ed Caskey with a limit that went 7.52 lbs.

We decided to invite the top two teams from this event to the Team State Championship on Rayburn September 9-10. So congratulations to the Kipp/Rogers Team and and Team Grissom. Brian Jones actually finished second in this event but was already qualified for the State Championship so we moved down the standings. Kipp/Rogers & Team Grissom be attending the State Championship with a chance to move on the National Team Championship on Lake Hartwell in Anderson SC December 7-10, 2022.

Event #2 is in the books! Huge congrats to Rolando Nandin for securing the win and big bass! Jacob Moeller got 2nd, Ote Shaw got 3rd, and Jesus Reyes got 4th! The south wind made things pretty hairy at the end of the day. We had and angler flip his kayak and was not able to recover […]
