Texas Bass Nation Kayak Division Battles It Out on Bois d’Arc Lake – Knutz Dominates

Posted on February 28, 2026 Written by DaShon Peck

The Texas Bass Nation Kayak Division made its way to Bois d’Arc Lake this past weekend, and the up-and-coming North Texas fishery once again proved why it’s quickly becoming one of the most talked-about lakes in the state.

Still considered a relatively new lake to many anglers, Bois d’Arc continues to show out. With its flooded timber, expansive creek arms, and healthy forage base, the lake has been steadily building a reputation — and recently added even more buzz by producing a new bass record. Combine that with late-winter warming trends and stable conditions, and it set the stage for a competitive and high-scoring tournament.

Weather & Lake Conditions

Anglers were greeted with mild morning temperatures, light winds, and a warming afternoon sun — ideal kayak tournament conditions. The water clarity ranged from slightly stained in the creeks to clearer main-lake sections, allowing competitors to mix power fishing with finesse presentations.

Several anglers noted that while Bois d’Arc still fishes “new,” the bass are beginning to establish more predictable seasonal patterns. Shallow cover, transition banks, and submerged timber lines all played key roles throughout the day.

As one angler shared at weigh-in:

“It still feels like you’re unlocking a new lake every trip out here. Every event teaches us something different.”

Knutz Dominates from Start to Finish

Keith Knutz set the tone early and never looked back. Posting a commanding 100.5 inches, Knutz held the top spot for most of the day and sealed the win with a consistent five-fish limit that kept challengers at bay.

Behind him, the leaderboard stayed tight all day, with inches separating multiple positions as anglers made late pushes in the afternoon.

Official Results – Texas Bass Nation Kayak Division

1st – Keith Knutz – 100.5” – $2,125

2nd – Tou Vue – 92.5” – $1,026

  • Big Bass – 21.75” – $720

3rd – Michael Hopkins – 91” – $804

4th – Erick Simien – 90.5” – $596

5th – Greg Hurt – 90.5” – $358

6th – Eddie Morris – 89.25” – $202

7th – Taylor LaFountain – 87.75” – $100

The battle for second through fifth was especially tight, with just inches making the difference. That’s kayak competition at its finest — every cast matters.

A Lake on the Rise

Bois d’Arc is quickly transitioning from “new lake curiosity” to a legitimate tournament destination. The combination of healthy bass populations, improving angler knowledge, and record-setting fish has put it squarely on the radar of competitive anglers across Texas.

If this weekend is any indication, the Texas Bass Nation Kayak Division will be back — and the bar has officially been set high.

Congratulations to all anglers who competed and to Keith Knutz on a dominant victory.

Team Division Double Header

Posted on February 23, 2026 Written by Brent Stafford

Two Regions in the Team Division have scheduled tournaments on the same lake on the same day. Our oversight could work to your advantage.

You have to participate in three tournaments to qualify for the Team State Championship. On April 25th on Lake Conroe at Stow-A-Way Marina you could participate in two Team tournaments on the same day. Sign up for the South Region and the NE/SE Region Tournaments on Lake Conroe and bring one sack of fish to two weigh-ins. Two Qualifiers in one day!!! All you need then is one more Team event to qualify for the Team State Championship in September on Cedar Creek Reservoir sponsored by Gun Barrell City.

Can College Teams participate in Team Division events? Yes, they can! You have already paid your Texas BASS Nation State membership dues. All you need to pay is a Bassmater Team membership of $10 for each angler and you can compete against the adult field. Your Bass Club name will be the School you represent. For example, Tarelton Bass Club…

North Central Region Recap: Gold on Travis, Grit on Buchanan

Posted on February 23, 2026 Written by DaShon Peck

Texas B.A.S.S. Nation – North Central Region

February 21–22, 2026

The North Central Region anglers showcased both consistency and resilience this past weekend with back-to-back tournaments on Lake Travis (Saturday) and Lake Buchanan (Sunday). From full limits across the field on Travis to a cold-front grind on Buchanan, the weekend highlighted the depth of talent in the region.

In a fitting “Olympic-style” theme, Andrew Wren and Joe Sciuto brought home the gold with dominant performances across both days, while Alonza Brown claimed the weekend’s heavyweight honors.

Lake Travis – Saturday, February 21, 2026

Lake Travis proved to be in outstanding shape. In a rare and impressive accomplishment, every boater and non-boater weighed in a full limit. That statistic alone speaks volumes about both the health of the fishery and the anglers’ execution.

Rising water levels made Travis feel like an entirely new lake compared to previous events. Expanding shoreline cover and changing conditions required adjustments, but the bite remained strong throughout the field.

Boater Division – Top 3

1st – Andrew Wren (Tarrant Christian Bass Club) – 12.40 lbs

2nd – Stephen Farrar (Tarrant Christian Bass Club) – 12.37 lbs

3rd – Jerry Miller (The Colony Bass Club) – 11.92 lbs

Wren secured the win with 12.40 pounds, narrowly edging out Farrar in a tightly contested finish separated by just ounces.

Non-Boater Division – Top 3

1st – Joe Sciuto (Big Sandy Bass Club) – 9.04 lbs

2nd – Chris Demiglio (The Colony Bass Club) – 6.39 lbs

3rd – Jordan Fudge (The Colony Bass Club) – 5.73 lbs

Sciuto also captured Big Bass honors on Travis with a 5.02 lb largemouth, earning both the win and the heavyweight award for the day.

Lake Travis delivered one of the most balanced weigh-ins in recent memory, with limits across the board. This is a testament to both preparation and performance!

Lake Buchanan – Sunday, February 22, 2026

Sunday brought a completely different challenge. A cold front moved through the region, tightening the bite and forcing anglers to adapt on the fly. The contrast from Saturday was evident, no boater weighed in a full limit.

Boater Division – Top 3

1st – Andrew Wren (Tarrant Christian Bass Club) – 6.85 lbs

2nd – Justin Hallmark (Big Sandy Bass Club) – 4.96 lbs

3rd – Eric Tapia (Centex Basshunters) – 3.48 lbs

Wren completed the weekend sweep with 6.85 pounds, demonstrating versatility and consistency across two vastly different fisheries and conditions.

Non-Boater Division – Top 3

1st – Joe Sciuto (Big Sandy Bass Club) – 8.15 lbs

2nd – Alonza Brown (The Colony Bass Club) – 7.16 lbs

3rd – Jordan Fudge (The Colony Bass Club) – 4.25 lbs

Alonza Brown claimed Big Bass honors on Buchanan with a 7.16 lb largemouth, earning heavyweight recognition for Sunday.

Buchanan tested patience and execution. Adjustments and efficiency were key, and those who managed quality bites rose to the top.

Year-to-Date Standings Update

After two events, Andrew Wren leads the Boater Division with 400 points, while Joe Sciuto leads the Non-Boater Division with 400 points. Both anglers have demonstrated remarkable consistency early in the season and sit atop the North Central Region standings.

The points race is beginning to take shape as the season progresses.

A Personal Note

This weekend’s recap comes during a time of loss for our North Central Region leadership. Just hours after Sunday’s weigh-in, Stephen Farrar’s father was called home.

On behalf of the North Central Region and Texas B.A.S.S. Nation family, we extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to Stephen and his family. Our fishing community is built on camaraderie, faith, and support for one another. We stand with him during this difficult time.

Two lakes. Two different stories.

One unforgettable weekend of competition.

We look forward to the next event as the North Central Region season continues to unfold.
