Lake Livingston Bass Practice Social Distancing

Posted on May 17, 2020 Written by Administrator

Lake Livingston Bass Practice Social Distancing

The Texas B.A.S.S. Nation Southeast Region returned to Lake Livingston for its third event of the 2020 season.  Due to the COVID-19 Virus and social distancing rules, the Region had to postpone the scheduled third and fourth events until September, and able to hold the Livingston tournament within current state and national protocols for events.

Lake Livingston’s catch rates have seem to be on the decline and practice for most anglers was tough.  Saturday morning at launch time major thunderstorms rolled in, causing many anglers to wait out the storms in their trucks until the second wave passed through.  Most anglers were as wet as the fish as the rain and wind continued off and on throughout the day, only to subside at weigh-in time.

It is believed that Lake Livingston’s bass were also practicing social distancing as the catch rates and quality were low.  Of the 87-Angler field, 67% of the field did not weigh in a fish, 32% did weigh a fish but there were no limits, and only 2 anglers had 4 fish sacks.  The BASS Club’s member Tommy Whitt was one of those anglers with 4-fish, which called him the Livingston Champion with a weight of 11.27.  Tommy’s bag was anchored by a 3.93 bass which also earned him second place Big BASS.

In Second was The BASS Club’s Daniel Davis with only 2 fish, but his bag was anchored by a 6.74 toad, earning Big Bass honors.  Both Whitt and Davis were in the same boat targeting the mouths of spawning flats with wacky worm or shakey head.

This year has also been unique with all three of our tournaments having first-time winners.  Ned Westmoreland continues to lead the Angler Of The Year race, but the Top-3 are real close.

Special thanks to The Waterfront Lodge, Marina and RV Park for hosting the event, and our sponsors Swagger Tungsten and Jordan Marine.

Thank you to all of the anglers for their understanding for difficult decisions during these uncertain times, and to the club presidents for their constant communication to their clubs.

Our next event is currently scheduled for Lake Belton, June 13, at BLORA.

*As a special note, the SE Region anglers want to thank our Region Directors, especially Eddie Dillow, for all their hard work and dedication for changes that the weather and COVID-19 has caused this year.

Texas BASS Nation vs. COVID-19

Posted on May 9, 2020 Written by Brent Stafford

Texas B.A.S.S. Nation,

Over the past couple of months our way of life has been turned upside down to say the least. This Covid-19 pandemic has thrown up road blocks in our daily tasks such as work, going to stores, going to restaurants and even having tournaments. To combat this pandemic National, State and Local governments put in place mandates that required the Texas B.A.S.S. Nation to shut down all affiliated events until the mandates are lifted.

Effective on May 1, 2020 most of the more restrictive mandates were lifted both Nationally and by the Texas Governor. With this news and an email from B.A.S.S. we were given the green light to resume scheduled events as long as we comply with the mandates still in effect. The Region directors will ensure that all clubs are advised of the special guidelines that will be in place at events so we comply with Governor Abbott’s Executive Order (https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-issues-executive-order-to-expand-openings-of-certain-businesses-and-activities). We, the Texas B.A.S.S. Nation, will comply with these orders and in doing so implement special guidelines that will be followed at each event until the mandates are lifted and our anglers are no longer at risk of contracting this virus. Failure to comply is not an option.

Several events were postponed/canceled during March and April. Most of these events have been re-scheduled.  Some will not be re-scheduled. Each Region director will try to get as many events in as possible for the 2020 season but they may need to reduce the number of qualifying events and make special exceptions in the Region qualifying requirements.

The TBTT trail will be reduced this season to two qualifying events. The Conroe TBTT was held back in February but the March and April events had to be cancelled. The final qualifier will be held on June 20, 2020 at Possum Kingdom Lake as scheduled. Modifications have been made in the rules. Any team that fished the Conroe event or fishes the Possum Kingdom event will qualify for the TBTT Championship. The TBTT Championship date has been changed to September 12-13, 2020 on Lake Limestone due to issues with support from the local community.  For 2020 there will not be a Team of the Year Award and the “Alternate” option will not be in effect.

Myself and the staff of the Texas B.A.S.S. Nation want to thank all members in advance for helping with our quest to salvage the 2020 season.

Sincerely,

David Glezman
TBN President

Event #2 is in the books! Huge congrats to Rolando Nandin for securing the win and big bass! Jacob Moeller got 2nd, Ote Shaw got 3rd, and Jesus Reyes got 4th! The south wind made things pretty hairy at the end of the day. We had and angler flip his kayak and was not able to recover […]
