Tapia and Fudge figure out fickle PK bite at 3rd North Central Region qualifier of 2025

YTD Standings

The North Central Region, Club Division, held its third qualifying tournament of the year on Sunday, March 30th at lake Possum Kingdom.  Several of the competitors fished the Team Division tournament on PK just the day before and thought they had some idea of what to expect from the lake.  Nope!  PK was as fickle as ever and played the old “show em one thing and take it away” game and left most of the anglers shaking their heads.  The one thing that was consistent from Saturday to Sunday was the wind!  It seems as if the wind starting blowing on January 1st and hasn’t stopped yet…and not just any wind, but west Texas topsoil dust kinda wind!

When the “dust” settled, it was  Eric Tapia, Centex Basshunters, who topped the rest of the boaters with one of the only two five fish limits and weighing in at 11.91 pounds.  Eric received $432 for his efforts, making a tough day much more bearable.

With three fish weighing 8.99, DaShon Peck, The Colony Bass Club, secured the second place finish, just edging Andrew out by a little over half a pound, and cashing a check for $288.  DaShon also took home an additional $140 and the Big Bass title of the tournament with a nice 5.64 pound beauty.

Andrew Wren, Tarrant Christian Bass Club, had the only other limit weighing 8.42 pounds, however, it was only good enough for third place.

On the non-boater side, each non boater managed only one fish each and it was new comer Jordan Fudge, The Colony Bass Club, who took the top spot with 2.51 pounds, a mere .16  pounds more than the fish weighed in by Chris Demiglio, The Colony Bass Club, who took home second place honors.  Jordan’s fish was worth $288 in his pocket!

Thank you to all the anglers who participated and hope to see you next time. The next qualifier will be on Lake Belton on May 18th and will again follow the Team trail tournament on May 17th on Belton as well.  These back to back tournaments are a great opportunity to fish a full weekend on the same lake so mark your calendars and lets see what you got!

Sikes and Smith Rule the Kingdom for the Day

2025 North Central Region Team Standings

March 29th.

The field of 21 teams were met with a Spring SW wind that drove temps into the high 80’s on Possum Kingdom.  They also found what they had hoped for most,  bass moving into spawn throughout the lake.  Newley arrived spawners can be a fickle bunch sometimes, which is proved in the results. Kickers were the key to cashing checks, and we had 3 brought to the scale between 7.53 and 8.71.

Todd Guernsey and Michael Rice best five went 17.18 with a 7.53# anchor usings senkos and chatterbaits around mid-lake.  This was their second time in the money in as many events and they find themselves currently leading Team of the Year in the North Central after earning $ 480 for 3rd place.

Eric Tapia and Steve Shows spent the day throwing Neko Trick worms and chatterbaits on main lake points leading into spawning areas.    Eric and Steve weighed in 18.27 with an 8.65# kicker for 2nd place and a $960 payday.    Eric’s payday weekend continued into Sunday as this was the first time that both the NC B.O.T.T. ( Sat.) and NC Club Division ( Sun.) were on the same lake the same weekend.

Kent Sikes and Joe Smith put together the winning bag on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits ( a bait used by all top 3 teams) keying on mid-coves and staying in 4 ft or less of water depth.   They also brought in the biggest bass of the day at 8.71 pounds.   Their efforts tipped the scales at 19.51 to take home a total of $1,960 of 1st place and big bass money.

Our next stop in the N.C. Bassmaster Open Team Trail will be held on Ray Roberts @ Jordan Park April 26th.   Hope to see you there!

Stop #2 Canyon Lake – Kayak Division

March 17, 2026 By DaShon Peck

Event #2 is in the books! Huge congrats to Rolando Nandin for securing the win and big bass! Jacob Moeller got 2nd, Ote Shaw got 3rd, and Jesus Reyes got 4th! The south wind made things pretty hairy at the end of the day. We had and angler flip his kayak and was not able to recover […]
