North East BASS Nation – Squaw Creek

Posted on February 16, 2019 Written by Brent Stafford

Fishermen,

North East anglers faced a cold and foggy Squaw most of the day which made moving around a little hairy. However, Every angler brought fish to the Scales! The big bite was tough to come by for most however getting bit was not a problem.

We had some challenges that come with fishing Squaw Creek waiting in line, high launch fee, finding a place to do weigh in, etc.etc.

Congratulations to Jon Harshbarger, he had no problem finding quality fish he took 1st  with 15.37 lbs, Randy Kavpil was 2nd with 13.28 lbs and thank you for letting us use Century Bass Club scales as a back up, 3rd Place out of the back of the boat was Bert Petrie 12.43 lbs and 4th was Mike Casanova 12.38 lbs also out of the back of the boat.

Big Bass for the Tournament went to Jon Harshbarger.

Check the Facebook page and the web site for other updates. www.texasbassonline.com

Thanks to all that fished Next up: Lake Belton March 3, 2019

Having An (Artic) Blast On T-Bend

Posted on February 12, 2019 Written by Administrator

The Texas B.A.S.S. Nation – Southeast Region held its second Region Qualifier of 2019 on February 9th.  The tournament was held on Toledo Bend Reservoir out of San Miguel Park.  The week of the tournament had temperatures in the 70’s and water temps in the 60’s.  However, in typical SETX Region tournament fashion, mother nature had other plans for tournament practice and tournament day.  Friday mid-day brought a major cold front dropping the air temperature nearly 30 degrees, bringing in the wind as well with up to 30+ mph gusts, thus limiting many to trailer their boats to their desired practice areas.  Conditions worsened throughout the day with sleet and light snow in the evening and overnight.  However, this did not deter our TOUGH Region anglers as we had a total of 145 participants!

While anglers awoke Saturday morning to slush in their boats, frozen boat covers, and frozen boat parts, tournament launch and take-off was successful.  Despite the frigid conditions, the wind did fortunately subside to about 10 mph, allowing most anglers to go to their desired fishing areas.  Once on the water, most anglers found the water temperature  had dropped 10 degrees overnight.  These tough conditions obviously made it tough as 52% of the field were not able to weigh in a keeper.  However, 10 anglers were at least able to weigh in a 5-fish limit.

One of those anglers was The BASS Club angler Jody Rhoden.  Anchored by a 7.79 pound kicker, Jody not only earned 2nd place Big Bass honors, but took home the Champion title.  Jody’s success was due to pitching baits to cover in 3-4 feet of water, and “covering tons of water”.  Following in a close second was Nacogdoches Bass Club angler Troy Reed with 19.35, followed in 3rd by The BASS club angler Wesley Baxley with 16.07.

Big Bass honors went to Vidor Bass Anglers Association angler Robert Royal with a 8.16 pound Toledo Bend Toad!

Thank you to the Vidor Bass Anglers Association for assisting at this event as the weather and launch ramp layout out made tournament morning tough.  Also, thank you to San Miguel Park for hosting the event.

Special thanks to sponsor partner McCain Rods and Swagger Tungsten.  Please know that Swagger is offering a special promotional discount to Region anglers, so please contact your club president for more information.

Our next event will be held on Sam Rayburn out of Jackson Hill Marina, March 9th.  See you at Big Sam!

Northwest Region Opens on Buchanan

Posted on February 11, 2019 Written by Brent Stafford

The Northwest Region held its first Regional Qualifier of 2019 on February 9th at Lake Buchanan. As usual for this time of year a strong cold front swept through the Texas Hill Country on Thursday night. Anglers were met with a wintery mix of precipitation and temps in low 30’s on official practice day. Conditions improved slightly on tournament day with highs near 40 degrees and light winds. Only the hardiest of competitors turned out to fish.

1st place went to Skeeter/Yamaha team member Andy Ortega from the San Angelo Federation Bass Club. Andy weighed in a 5 bass limit weighing 20.17 lbs that was anchored by a 6.46 lb kicker that also took big bass honors! Troy Bryant from the Llano Bass Club took 2nd place with the only other 5 fish limit weighing 15.78 lb. Lewis Decker, also from Llano Bass Club, took the 3rd place spot with 3 fish weighing 12.01 lb. Anglers reported spinnerbaits and crankbaits caught most of the fish.

The next qualifier for the Northwest Region will be Possum Kingdom March 9th. Headquarters will be at Possum Hollow Lodge. Call 940-549-1873 for reservations. Be sure to mention you are with the Texas BASS Nation.
