Lake Palestine – #2 for NE Region

Posted on February 11, 2018 Written by Brent Stafford

The 2nd stop for the Northeast Region is Lake Palestine and the fishing has been good from the other tournament results that have been fishing since January. The NE Region has seen a strong start with thirty-one anglers kicking off the season to a stingy Brandy Branch.

Please register or notify the Regional or Tournament Director by text, call, or email by Thursday February 22nd by 11:59 pm CST to register for the Tournament as a Boater or Co-Angler (without a penalty of $10.00). You can also pay your tournament dues online and this will bypass the need to contact the tournament director. We will also have late sign ups and tournament forms collected during the Sunday meeting at the restaurant on Lake Palestine Resort. Also, if we can get 10 committed anglers we can get the grill open for breakfast beginning 5:00 AM CST on Sunday.

Remember, if you fish all six tournaments you will automatically qualify for the Regional Championship as a Co-Angler. Boaters for the championship will be the highest qualifying 50% of the regional championship field (field has to be an even amount of anglers). Best 4 of 6 format to determine boaters for championship. Angler of the Year is determined by fishing all six events.
Official Ramp is Lake Palestine Resort ($5.00 boat ramp fee). Safety Meeting at 6:10 AM. Dues and check in are at Lake Palestine Resort main ramp on Sunday at 5:30 AM CST. Take off at safe light estimated at 6:40 AM CST and weigh in at 3:00 PM CST.

Lake Palestine Resort will offer discounts for rooms at the ramp (call and state that you are from Texas BASS Nation). There are rooms for up to six anglers. Call for reservations as there is another tournament on Saturday 888-398-5253. Also, checks will be mailed out on Monday because the Secretary will not be at the tournament.

GROWING BASSMASTER HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICAN PROGRAM SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR 2018 CLASS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — B.A.S.S. is now accepting nominations for the best and brightest high school bass anglers in the country to complete its
2018 class of distinguished students.

The Bassmaster High School All-American Fishing Team presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods recognizes the 12 best high school anglers in the nation. The program is designed to reward young athletes for their performance in tournaments, leadership in their communities and involvement in conservation efforts.

Applications for the team, which is now in its fourth year, will be accepted today through Feb. 16.

To be considered, a student must be nominated by a parent, coach, teacher or other school official. Students currently enrolled in grades 10 through 12 with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher are eligible.

Judges will select up to two student anglers in each state. These All-State Fishing Team members will become semifinalists in the selection of the 12-member All-American Team. Criteria include success in high school fishing tournaments and involvement in conservation efforts and other community service activities.

The anglers chosen will compete in a one-day Bassmaster All-American High School Tournament to be held in conjunction with the 2018 Toyota Bassmaster Texas Fest benefiting Texas Parks and Wildlife Department — one of nine regular-season Bassmaster Elite Series tournaments being held this year. Elite Series anglers will serve as coaches for the student anglers in the one-day fishing event on Lake Travis in Jonestown, Texas, where they will be honored before the weigh-in crowd.

“Our High School All-American program has grown exponentially, with almost double the number of applicants since its inception.” said Hank Weldon, senior manager of the Bassmaster High School program. “We are so proud to see all of the accomplishments of young students across the country that do great things for their community and our sport. And, to recognize them with this award is such an honor for B.A.S.S. We can’t wait to see what our 2018 applicants will bring to the table.”

All students who compete in high school fishing events are eligible, regardless of whether they are affiliated with B.A.S.S. or another fishing organization.

Notices have been sent to youth fishing directors of the B.A.S.S. Nation and other organizations, as well as leaders of state high school fishing programs. Adults can nominate students by completing an online form at Bassmaster.com/allamerican. Nominations must be submitted before midnight, Feb. 16.

The Return of the C-Riggers

Posted on January 21, 2018 Written by Brent Stafford

The first stop of the Northeast Region’s 2018 season featured Brandy Branch Lake on January 7th, 2018. For the past six years Brandy Branch has been an excellent fishery since it is one of the few remaining Power Plant lakes. However, the fishing has been tougher the past two years and a big decline from the days when everyone seemed to bring in a limit of at least 15 lbs.

The water temperatures ranged from 54 to 88 degrees depending on which side of the lake you fished, and for the most part the spawn had not really kicked off. Coy Fraiser (Century Bass Club) was able to dredge five bass weighing in 17.55 lbs. and took 1st place fishing depths 40 ft. or deeper along the deepest ridge in the cold-water side. Coy used a Carolina rig to catch his limit of fish.
David Rush (Denton County Bass Club) came in second place by bringing in five bass that weighed 16.12 lbs. David was also fishing deep in the cold-water side to catch his fish. As with Coy, it’s been a year since we have seen them fishing the Region.
Finishing in 3rd place was Michael Allen (North East Texas Anglers) who brought in five bass weighing in 13.79 lbs. Michael caught his fish from the back of last year’s Brandy Branch Campion Chance Woodard.
Twenty-four out of thirty-one anglers caught fish. Brandy produced 66 bass for 173.47 lbs. with a 7.23 lbs. average. Although the fishing seemed much tougher, the statistics were close to last year’s tournament in March. First Big Fish went to John Walker that weighed 6.59 lbs. and second Big Fish went to Mark Alexander with a 5.74 lber.

The Northeast Region’s next stop is Lake Palestine. It will be the 2nd tournament of the season held on Sunday February 25th. Sign up on the Website, Facebook, or contact the regional or tournament director. There will be a Saturday meeting for this event. Signup will start around 5:45 am CST at Lake Palestine Resort Ramp.

Let’s also root for the Northeast Region anglers Boaters: Jon Harshbarger (Century Bass Club) and Nick LaBrun (Wascom Bass Club) Co-anglers: Jason Geesey (Red Oak Bass Club), Mike Casanova (Century Bass Club), and Bert Petrie (Century Bass Club) who will represent the State of Texas and fish the Regionals at Toledo Bend March 7-9.
