Kitajima & Yamate Crowned Team State Champions on Cedar Creek

Posted on September 14, 2025 Written by Brent Stafford

Overall Team Results
Overall Big Bass Results

We had four days of great weather for the Team State Championship at Cedar Creek Reservoir sponsored by Gun Barrel City! Seventies in the mornings gave way to ninties in the afternoon but the fish cooperated and fourty six teams were game for the two day derby.

The angler briefing Thursday evening went well at a very nice venue, CR Legacy Event Center. The Event Center staff served chicken fried steak, vegetables and peach cobbler for dessert. The meal was a hit!! Team of The Year plaques were awarded to the top Team in each of five Regions.

Those Teams that found fish did well both days. The Team of Kazuki Kitajima & Kentaro Yamate topped the field after two days of competition with a total weight of 34.87 lbs. Their ten fish two day total also included the big bass of the event of 7.85 lbs. Kazuki caught that beauty on day one. This was the second time this team had fished Cedar Creek so congratulations to them for figurin things out quickly!! These guys will represent Texas at the National Team Championship December 3-6 on Lake Hartwell out of Anderson, SC.

Second place went to the Team of Trevor Romans & David Rush. Their two day ten fish limit went 33.94 lbs and qualified them for the trip to South Carolina. This Team qualified to go to the National Championship last year but did not make it due to health complications. They plan to be on Lake Hartwell in December!

Third place in the Team State Championship went to the Team of James Seymour & Casey Garcia with a two day ten fish limit that weighed 31.64 lbs. These guys were the standby team last year and filled in when Trevor & David couldnt make it. They will go again this year to the National Championship. Congratutlations gentlemen! Consistent performance pays off.

Fourth place and the last Team to qualify for the National Team Championship was the Team of Terry Anderson & Curtis Daniels with a two day ten fish limit that went 30.15 lbs. Congratulations to them as well on advancing!

Fifth place went to the team of Mike Schooler and Randy White, also the NW Region Team of The Year for 2025. Their two day ten fish limit went 29.03 lbs. Mike caught the second place overall big bass of the event that weighed 7.66 lbs.

Sixth place goes to the team of Dylan Hickey & Joey Hickey. Their two day seven fish stringer went 28.13 lbs. This included a 6.71 lb kicker fish. They were on good fish but couldnt get a full limit to the boat. Congratulations to Dylan & Joey.

ROMANS/RUSH Rake’em on LBJ => SIKES/SMITH Secure Team of the Year

Posted on June 18, 2025 Written by Brent Stafford

Late evenings and early mornings are grand on Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country.  The field enjoyed slick calm waters and a ramp to ourselves as daylight broke.   It was not the same tranquility loading up at the LBJ Yacht Club as the lake life had woken up from their late Friday night activities.

Trevor Romans and David Rush spent there day up the Llano and Colorado River systems that feeds LBJ form Llano and Burnett counties.   They flipped small creature baits into any cover they could find.   Their efforts found some hot stretches of quality bites that earned them a 1st place19.75 lbs sack anchored by a 6.26 and a $1,250 payday.

Gary Martin and Mike Loden put numerous patterns together with bladed jigs, spinnerbaits and flukes mostly over grass and added big TX rigged worms over rocks to finish their day with 18.10 lbs and big bass honors with a salty 7.34.  2nd place and big bass paid their team a total of $ 840.

Justin Hallmark and Joe Scuito had the honors of calling take off boat numbers and went out and had a heck of a day following the field.   They took home $340 of 3rd place money with a 17.83 lbs limit using a finesse presentation shallow early and moved out deep later in the day.

Congratulations to Kent Sikes and Joe Smith for securing the N.C. T.B.O.T.T. Team of the Year!   They lead the season in total weight, number of fish and biggest bass of 2025 in the N.C. T.B.O.T.T. which earned them a paid entry into the T.B.O.T.T. State Championship.

I’ll look forward to seeing all who qualified for the T.B.O.T.T. State Championship at Cedar Creek September 12-13th.

Thanks for fishing the N.C. Texas Bassmaster Open Team Trail!

2025 Southeast Region Team Standings

6/8/25: The 2025 Southeast Region Team Trail made their final stop of the 2025 season, at Toledo Bend out of the Sam Forse Collins Boat ramp on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Toledo Bend was a little over half a foot below full pool. The weather cooperated and gave us a partly coudy morning followed by afternoon sunshine.

Wesley Johnson and Tracy Adams bested the field with an impressive five fish limit that tipped the scales at 24.01 lbs. And yes, they hda the big bass of the day with a 9.62 lb kicker. Beautiful fish! All their fish came in ten feet of water and they culled several times. They also shared that the predicted bit window was spot on that day, between 10 am and noon. So if you have ever been sceptical of moon phases and feeding times you might want to give it antother chance. Of course, if you hav’nt located fish. which is my primary challenge, moon phases and feeding times are irrelevent.

Second place went to the Team of Terry Service and Eric Green. They too had a five fish limit of healthy fish that went 18.13 lbs. They declined to weigh a big fish when I asked them saying “we only have a 6 pounder”. That contributes to a frustrating day when you’ve already seen the 9.62 big fish weigh-in. Terry and Eric were fishng 100 yards from Wesley and Tracy and confirmed the bite window. It has merit guys!

Third place went to the Southeast Region Team of the Year Tye & Mark Grissom with 9.97 lbs.. These guys have been the most consistent through the year which is the key to success when in the running for a yearly award based on points. Congratulations to Team Grissom!! They say they will be back next year to defend their title!

Thanks to all the Teams that fished with us in the SE Region! See you at the Team State Championship Spetember 12-13 on Cedar Creek out of Gun Barrel City!!

Event #2 is in the books! Huge congrats to Rolando Nandin for securing the win and big bass! Jacob Moeller got 2nd, Ote Shaw got 3rd, and Jesus Reyes got 4th! The south wind made things pretty hairy at the end of the day. We had and angler flip his kayak and was not able to recover […]
